August 2025 and into September a little

Sunday, August 3, a sweet friend at church gave me this beautiful fall arrangement,
we enjoyed having the David and Bekah Mahin family for dinner,
and our church hosted the Melton family for a missions service.
On Monday, August 4, Rowen and I drove to Joplin, Mo. again.
My longtime friend, Cyndi lost her husband Paul to cancer. We've been friends since third grade, so we felt like we should go.
As we drove on I-70 across Illinois, we were traveling about 20 miles behind Emily as she was returning home from being at Mode Camp Meeting!  When she stopped west of St. Louis on I-44 to get gas at Sam's Club, she waited for us to catch up to her.

It was such a sweet privilege to be together a few minutes before we continued on our journey.
We went to Tim and Brenda's and Emily stopped there a few minutes also.

Tim had started on the kitchen remodel, so this is part of a cabinet left to use until the new island is placed.  Tim was making some homemade salsa.

Rowen and I went on to Paul's visitation, and Emily went on home to Tulsa.
I got to read books to Piper and Felix.

The funeral was the next day.

The whole right side of the church was reserved for family and extended family.  It was a beautiful service, very honoring to the life Paul lived for Jesus.
I didn't get to spend much time with Cyndi, but Rowen got this picture.

We had some time with Tim and Brenda's family.
Brenda wanted to do a puzzle and Tim wanted to play Play Nine, so we did both at once!
We got the puzzle finished first thing in the morning, before we made the trip back to Kentucky.
We were thankful for the safe miles and time with our family.

Our surprise lilies did make an appearance!

On August 9, a dear couple we knew in Colorado came for a short visit, but they requested not to show up on our blog.
Later, Lynell White arrived to spend the weekend on her way to Branson.

It was so special to have her with us for church on Sunday!

On Tuesday, August 12, the Seniors and Friends group from church met at City Barbeque for lunch.
We were so happy the Stetlers were home from their summer camp meeting
obligations so they could be there.
The next day, I went to a GBS employee meeting and got to sit with Jason and visit with him.
I was impressed with the beautiful work Dr. Steve Oliver did at the patio of the new water feature.
Last year, he made the seating layers on the other side of the stairs.
It all looks amazing and lights up at night.

I made a baby blanket out of flannel fabrics, which I later sent to expectant friends in WV.
I picked up fabrics and patterns from GBS to make a couple costumes for the Christmas play.

I am thankful to have them finished!

Elizabeth had spent a lot of time this month preparing for a 2 week trip to Hope4Liberia orphanage.
This is the schedule she made for her flights.

We had Steven and Heidi Nelson over for Saturday lunch on August 16.
Heidi was Elizabeth's college dorm roommate in 2014.
On Sunday, we had Kaitlyn and Ashton Dicken for dinner.

Elizabeth and I were kind of matching that day.
She wanted to play a game with me since she would be gone on my birthday.
I made three mats to use with the Punto game.
I've given them all away, so I'll need to make another one.
Darrell and Regina Stetler shared sweet corn with us from their garden.
We are so thankful to have yummy corn in the freezer!
August 19, we went to Cincinnati and bought a new simple sewing machine. So far, I am loving it!
Then we ate at Gyro in the Mall.

We spent the afternoon at GBS for move-in day. Our cooler held iced teas for the ones who were moving into the dorms and their helpers.

Elizabeth learned how to make bees out of pipe cleaners for a craft for the VBS in Liberia.
Retha made a bee puppet for her to take.

She had a lot of things to pack to take to the orphanage.
The Stetlers came over to pray for Elizabeth's trip.
We took her to the Lexington airport on August 23.

We went to Golden Corral for my birthday lunch.

We had the Stetlers over for my Sunday (24th) birthday dinner.

I started a fall queen quilt for my sister, Sherry. She had given me the
fabrics to make something special. I'm sorry I didn't get it done yet!

I'm looking forward to finishing it soon...

Rowen and I went to Columbia, Mo on August 28 to Daddy's house.
Our main purpose was the family gathering with Wes and Lisa on August 30.
Jeffrey and Lesa came to Daddy's the same day.  They were on their way to a family gathering with Lesa's family, and we got to enjoy them for a day and a half.
They stopped and saw Aunt Sharron Albertson on their way.
It was wonderful to have Jeff and Lesa with us!
Marlene came over to spend Friday.  We taught her to play Punto.
We also played Dahlias.
On a walk in Daddy's neighborhood.

That evening we went to a park to play pickleball.
We watched them play and it looked so fun!

So we tried it. It was a lot of fun. We weren't chasing balls, just hitting what came right to us.
Then I made a misstep, and down I went, breaking my wrist bones in several pieces.
We wrapped it in Ace bandage,

and I slept with it elevated over my heart with ice packs.
Saturday morning, I went to the Columbia Orthopedic Group Urgent Care and had x-rays.
It was a painful wait before we got called back.

The x-rays clearly showed the ulna and radial bones broken and jammed into my hand.

They made a plaster splint to support it.  We were told to go to Boone Hospital for reduction.  Jeff and Lesa went there and stayed with us a little while, and then drove on to Iowa.  It was a long wait, but eventually my hand was put in this contraption to pull the bones into alignment.
It worked, though my little finger kept sliding out of the Chinese yoyo hold.
There was a 5# weight hanging down from my elbow.
It took about 30 minutes.  They did x-rays and made a new plaster splint, and told me I would have to have surgery, and gave me an appointment for Tuesday, September 2 at COG.

So we were released to go join the family gathering at Lyndell's house that we had been missing.
All of my siblings were together for the day!

Daddy with his boys

Daddy and his girls

Daddy and his "outlaws"

Daddy and some of his grands and great-grands
When Emily was at work at CFA and got the news my arm was broken, her boss told her to leave and come to be with us!  That was such a blessing!! Her Happy Hands boss gave her Tuesday and Wednesday off also, and Monday was off for Labor Day.  So we enjoyed time with our girl!
It was a treat to see my youngest brother Wesley for awhile.
He lives in Florida so we seldom get to see him.
We played Punto and visited while I iced my wrist.

The next day was Sunday. We watched several services on the computer.
Then we went to Lyndell's for lunch.
Marlene left after lunch to nap for working nightshift.
Tim and Sherry left after lunch to drive home to Tennessee.

We taught them how to play Punto.

Brenda Owens came back over for Labor Day (Sept 1) to be with us more.
Rowen and I tried to take a walk every day.

Emily got to go on a 26 mile bike ride with Uncle Lyndell!
Tim and Rowen hanging out.

Aunt Sharen took Piper and Felix on 4-wheeler rides!

Emily after we got back to Grandpa's.

At the surgeon appointment on Tuesday, Sept. 2
They took off my splint and gave me a brace and sling to wear until surgery.

We saw Marlene a tiny bit on Tuesday.
Emily had to head for home on Wednesday morning. Traditional goodbye picture!

My cousin, LaDeana, came over to see me for a little while in the morning.
We got in some good visiting and prayer time with Daddy.

Then we were off to have surgery to install a plate and screws to hold my radius bone together.
Here the anesthesiologist was explaining how he was going to do a nerve block.
The following day we drove home, thankful to be out of pain!!
This picture is on our walk on Friday. We got our house number repainted.
Today, September 6, we got Elizabeth home from Liberia!
Praise the Lord!!
